I'm grateful for the recent invitation to attend Fellowship Home's 55th anniversary celebration. Fellowship Home has been providing a safe, sober living environment for men in early recovery from alcohol and drug addiction since 1961! Their anniversary celebration was a huge success complete with good ol' eastern NC BBQ, all the fixin's and a both beautiful and yummy anniversary cake. As a non-profict 501(c)(3) organization, Fellowhip Home is always grateful for financial contributions. Please consider joining me in supporting this well-deserving organization. They now accept online contributions via their website: http://www.fellowshiphome.org/

I had the recent privilege of serving as guest lecturer to a class at Wake Tech Community College. These students are in Wake Tech's Substance Abuse Counseling program. Our topic: "Relationship Between Trauma History and Substance Abuse." I was truly impressed by the passion for this important field of study that many of the students shared. Thank you to Instructor, Donald Little, MA, LCAS for this opportunity! Here are a few subtopics and key points from my lecturer:
Subtopics: *The Role of Heredity in the development of substance use disorders *The Role of one's living Environment in the development of substance use disorders *The role of the use of psychoactive drugs in the development of substance use disorders *The role of stigma towards person's living with addiction and person's living with a trauma history (and the "double whammy" when both are present in one person). Factoids: * In domestic violence cases, 67% of perpetrators were found to be under the influence of alcohol. *Per multiple research studies, the relationship between alcohol use and acquaintance rape has been clearly established. *More than 75% of females who live with addiction suffered incest, molestation, or physical abuse as a child or an adult. * 25% of US women have been sexually assaulted (which includes 18% rape) and 10% of those involve alcohol use by one or both individuals (and alcohol use tends to be present for both).
